Player of the Year 

Leighton Robertson, Montgomery Academy 

Chosen as AHSAA Class 4A-5A State Tournament MVP after scoring two goals in title game, helping MA win its eighth straight championship. Had five goals and three assists in the Final Four. Scored 22 goals in 15 games. 

FIRST TEAM 

Kaylee Peevy 

Trinity, junior

Position: Goalkeeper

Why chosen: Stopped 88.3% of shots. Allowed 10 goals in 20 games, helping Trinity win the Class 1A-3A title against previously undefeated Donoho. 

TITLES EARNED: Trinity and Montgomery Academy win AHSAA girls soccer state championships

Alex Budny

Montgomery Academy, senior 

Position: Defender

Why chosen: Super All-State Second Team. Class 4A-5A All-State First Team. Recorded 12 assists and two goals in 20 games. 

Hope McCain

St. James, freshman

Position: Defender

Why chosen: Class 4A-5A All-State Second Team. Had a goal and five assists, voted a team MVP. 

Tori Meldrum

Pike Road, junior

Position: Defender

Why chosen: Part of 10-win Patriot team that conceded eight goals in a 10-match stretch leading into postseason. 2021 AHSAA All-Star. 

Leighton Robertson

Montgomery Academy, senior 

Position: Midfielder

Why chosen: Super All-State Second Team. Class 4A-5A All-State First Team. Had 57 points (22 goals, 13 assists) in 15 games. Filled in after MAs top striker suffered a season-ending injury. 

DEEP BENCH: Montgomery Academy girls soccer has the depth to carry it through the AHSAA playoffs

Healey Mathison

Trinity, senior 

Position: Midfielder

Why chosen: Scored 19 goals and had 13 assists in 20 games. Was the Class 1A-3A State Tournament MVP with a goal in title game. Helped Trinity to 18 wins.  

Katherine Warren

Trinity, junior 

Position: Midfielder

Why chosen: Posted 12 goals and eight assists. Helped Wildcats to second title while starting (2018). 2021 AHSAA All-Star. Two-Time All-Metro. 

Hayes Jenkins 

Montgomery Academy, sophomore  

Position: Forward 

Why chosen: Tallied 20 goals and 17 assists. Had a hat trick in the 6-1 state championship win over St. John Paul II. 

Delaney Hawthorne

Pike Road, sophomore  

Position: Forward 

Why chosen: Class 4A-5A All-State First Team. Finished with 33 goals and 14 assists in 13 games.

Kaitlin Phenix

Montgomery Academy, junior  

Position: Forward 

Why chosen: Class 4A-5A All-State Second Team. Had a team-leading 70 points (29 goals, 12 assists) in 18 games. 2019 All-Metro honorable mention. 

Katie Brightwell 

St. James, freshman  

Position: Forward 

Why chosen: Class 4A-5A All-State Second Team. Scored 48 goals with 16 assists in 17 games. Helped St. James reach the third round of the playoffs. Two-time All-Metro.
